What are the various types of cement used in construction?

Cement plays a key role in modern construction works. It is mainly using as a folder in concrete, an essential material for all types of construction. It is a critical component in constructing buildings, roads, and other brick and motor creations. There are so many varieties of cement will provide to the different construction processes, and they may vary with technology, quality and objectives to achieve in the building sites. Here is the list of various types of cements.

Ordinary Portland cement (OPC):

This type of cement gets harder in a short period and is widely used to prepare ready mix concrete. It will be useful to save money and effort. The basic components used are limestone, gypsum and clay mixed at high temperature to create a strong adhesive force. The main advantage of this type of cement is that they are opposed to weather changes and even submarine conditions like tanks and pools.

Portland Pozzolana cements (PPC):

The Pozzolana is an important component in this cement, including fly ash, calcined clay, or volcanic ash. This cement is prepared in two ways by cement manufacturer. One type is by grinding the Pozzalanic clinker with ordinary Portland cement or calcium sulfate. Another method is to combine the Portland cement with powdered Pozzolana. It is highly resistant to substance attacks. This type of cement is using in dams and sewage channels. It will give a smooth and glossy finish at the final.

Quick setting cement:

The main advantage of this cement has quick setting properties, and it sets quickly in between the time ranges from 5 minutes to 30 minutes. This cement constitutes a relation of clinker and aluminium sulphate to boost hydration rate. It will be used in moist weather circumstances and underwater construction. And commonly it is used in high temperatures for quick evaporation of dampness.

Low heat cement:

It is a special type of cement that releases low heat of hydration. It occurs as a chemical reaction that happens when the cement gets mixed with water. The benefit of using this cement is generating lower hydration heat to avoid the risk of making cracks. It is used in mass construction sites like bridges, dams and chemical plants.

Sulphate resisting cement:

This cement is urbanized in response to the sulphate attack on the cement in a concrete structure. It will help to reduce the amount of calcium sulpho aluminates. This cement is the perfect choice for building sites where the soil or groundwater contain a high amount of sulphate salts. It is used in drainage works and water storage sumps.

High alumina cement:

This cement is made of calcium aluminates as a substitute for calcium silicates used in regular Portland cement. It is prepared by melting bauxite and lime mixture and then grinds it with a clinker. This type of cement has high compressive strength and is fire resistant, making it suitable for large construction.

The bottom line:

The information mentioned above is some of the types of cement available nowadays, which is used to make construction. Depending on your necessity, you can consult with your builder on which cement is suits your need the best.
